Wednesday 10 September 2014

10 September 2014 - DS Smith Plastics Division, a unit of UK recycled packaging supplier DS Smith Plc (LON:SMDS) said it had bought Croatian injection moulding firm Kaplast dd, for an undisclosed amount.

Kaplast produces plastic products specialising in returnable beverage and food packaging.

The transaction will lead to increased manufacturing capabilities, service offerings and joined experience in innovative injection moulded transit packaging for a variety of industries, according to DS Smith Plastics Division's press release.

The purchase is thought to strengthen the buyer's position as a leading market player in Europe and to help boost the moulded product offering in the region, DS Smith-Plastics Rigid and Flexible Packaging European group's managing director Hans Van Der Looij said.

Following the acquisition, the Croatian company will be combined with DS Smith Plastics Division's rigid packaging group. In addition, the target's general manager Ivan Feitl will assume the same position within DS Smith Plastics' Croatian operation.
