Air Liquide to Acquire and Operate South African Oxygen Production Site to Reduce CO2 Emissions
Friday 31 July 2020

Paris-based energy and chemical company Sasol has signed an exclusive negotiation agreement for Air Liquide (PAR: AI), a French supplier of industrial gases and services, to acquire a South African oxygen production site, with a goal to reduce CO2 emissions, the company said.

This solution, provided by Air Liquide, would allow, in coordination with Sasol, a targeted reduction of 30% to 40% in CO2 emissions arising from the oxygen production by 2030.

The amount of the initial investment would be approximately ZAR 8.5bn (EUR 440m) (USD 521m).

In this context, Air Liquide would operate the 16 air separation units of this site, with an installed capacity of 42,000 tons/day, in addition to the unit it already operates, and would launch a multi-year plan to modernise these facilities.
